Setting up WordPress.org Sites on a Mac
I’ve been dabbling in the black arts of putting up WordPress sites that are not created through this online tool. In other words, I have been tackling the dreaded “five-minute install” on my Mac. For me, that has turned into the “two-and-a-half hour install,” but I think I’ve finally cracked it. And, in keeping with the purpose of this simplified version of WordPress, I offer the following links as resources.
1) As suggested by the eBook “Rockstar WordPress Designer,” I found WordPress.org’s Codex with directions on how to set up WordPress on a Mac using MAMP as a local host.

2) Following the advice of the WordPress.org Codex, I downloaded and installed MAMP on my Mac.

3) Things went well until steps three and four of the Codex directions. I think it was because I tried to set it up on another hard drive and then couldn’t figure out how to connect to the new database I created. So I deleted MAMP and reinstalled it with the default settings, then followed Francis Phan’s “MAMP and WordPress Installation Tutorial” video on how to set it up.

My blog is up and running now, and I will go back to Rockstar WordPress Designer and the video to figure out how to use WordPress next.
